While celebrating the win over Pakistan, Patil firmly redirected the team's focus toward upcoming group-stage challenges.
India opened their Women's T20 World Cup 2026 campaign with a resounding 64-run victory over Pakistan at Edgbaston, Birmingham on Sunday (June 14).
Smriti Mandhana scored a brilliant half-century (68 off 44), while Richa Ghosh produced a terrific cameo (34 off 17) as India posted 170/6 in 20 overs after opting to bat first.
Despite a solid foundation by Muneeba Ali (41 off 35), Pakistan’s run chase unraveled completely when Deepti Sharma affected a game-changing run out to dismiss the set opener.
The middle order crumbled against Deepti (5-10 in 4 overs) and left-arm spinner Sree Charani (3-21 in 4 overs), with Pakistan losing their last seven wickets for just 31 runs to be bowled out for 106 in 17 overs.
After the win, off-spinner Shreyanka Patil emphasized her comfort and success in executing high-stakes powerplay overs for both domestic and national teams.
While celebrating a dream opening victory against the arch-rivals, she firmly redirected the team's focus toward upcoming group-stage challenges.
"I've always enjoyed bowling in the powerplay, whether it's for my state team or for India. It's amazing to bowl under pressure because that's what I love doing, and it's something I've successfully done in the past," Shreyanka told JioStar.
She added, "We know that Australia and South Africa are top teams as well. It's a World Cup, and you never know; anything can happen."
Shreyanka Patil also opened up about a difficult period away from the game due to severe injury, confessing that she fought deep negative thoughts and considered quitting cricket entirely.
"I'd be lying if I said I wasn't depressed or that I didn't think about giving up cricket. That's how I felt initially during the injury phase," she remarked.
Patil credited her deep passion for the sport and continuous mental support from her family, specifically her father, for helping her navigate the depressive phase.
"No matter what, I love playing this sport. I'm here only because I love playing it," she stated. "I kept my head high, my dad kept talking to me, and my family supported me throughout."
Having successfully recovered and returned to action, she expressed immense joy at being back on the field.
"I love being back on the field now, and I won't let that feeling go," Shreyanka Patil said.
