Jasprit Bumrah took 14 wickets in the T20 World Cup 2026.
Former England player Michael Vaughan has stated that England would’ve won the T20 World Cup 2026 if they had Jasprit Bumrah in their team.
Jasprit Bumrah was the difference between a good bowler and an excellent bowler in India’s campaign in the T20 World Cup 2026. Especially in the semi-final between India and England, Bumrah’s bowling proved to be the difference.
India had posted 253/7 in 20 overs in Mumbai, and England, despite losing the top three for cheap runs, gave a good run for the money in the chase, thanks to a century by Jacob Bethell. India only won the game by 7 runs. In a match where there was a bloodbath for the bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah returned figures of 1/33 in four overs.

“Didn’t you say he’s the best bowler you’ve ever seen?" David Lloyd asked.
“Yeah, that I’ve seen. And you have to remember, I started watching cricket, probably from '85-'86, when I really started to study cricket. He’s the best I’ve seen," Vaughan said.
“Is he the best in a match-winning spell in Test match cricket? He’s definitely, without a shadow of doubt, the best all-format bowler. You can safely say that, can’t you? In any form, he is the best all-round bowler. Has he, like a test match, bowled some spells, and I’m not quite… 8/15, or is he not that kind of bowler?" Alastair Cook said.
“I’ve seen him a bit in Australia produce some spells, and he has been just different," Vaughan said.
Bumrah also picked 4/15 in the final as New Zealand’s chase of India’s 255 runs never got going. Bumrah finished with 14 wickets at an average of 12.42 and an economy rate of 6.21. He was given the Player of the Final award.
He became the first pacer to take four wickets in a T20 World Cup knockout match, following spinners Ajantha Mendis (4/12 against the West Indies in the 2012 final) and Shadab Khan (4/26 against Australia in the 2021 semifinal).
Bumrah now stands as the fifth-highest wicket-taker in T20 World Cup history, with 40 wickets in 26 matches at an average of 13.65 and an economy rate of 5.66.
Bumrah is also the second player to win the Player of the Final after winning the Player of the Tournament in the previous edition of the T20 World Cup. He was Player of the Tournament in India’s title win in 2024. Shahid Afridi of Pakistan is the other player—winning Player of the Tournament in the 2007 T20 World Cup and Player of the Final in 2009.
