Abhishek Sharma has scores of 15, 55 and 10 in T20 World Cup 2026.
Former India batter Manoj Tiwary has criticized the way opener Abhishek Sharma got out in the recent India v West Indies Super 8s game of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026. India won the game by 5 wickets, thanks to Sanju Samson’s 97*, and qualified for the semi-final of the event.
However, focus was on Abhishek Sharma, who had regained some form against Zimbabwe with a sublime fifty but could only manage 10 runs against the West Indies in Kolkata.
Abhishek Sharma suffered from a stomach bug before the tournament began, and he returned with three ducks in a row in his first three games. He managed to break that rut with a score of 15 against South Africa. He showed signs of a return to form with 55 against Zimbabwe, but his recent knock against the West Indies has given his critics something to say.
Former India batsman Manoj Tiwary has commented on Abhishek's difficult World Cup campaign, providing a candid appraisal of the youngster's rapid rise and the expectations that now surround him.
He also emphasized that early stardom alone is insufficient at the highest level, arguing that consistency and match-winning influence are what distinguish prospective players from actual superstars.
“He (Abhishek) has already become a star in such a short time, but if he wants to be a superstar, he has to win games for the team. There is so much competition, so many match winners, so he has to be ahead of them. It isn’t as if the coach and the team management are unhappy with him and will bench him for the next game. He (Abhishek) has been given that freedom. When you don’t put a price on your wicket, then you will play loose shots like that," Tiwary said on Cricbuzz.
Tiwary went on to say that the West Indies game was a major opportunity for Abhishek, but it didn't go as planned. He also mentioned the dropped receptions and emphasized the importance of improved shot selection under pressure.
“Today, it was a good opportunity for him. Today was an off day for him. He (Abhishek) dropped two catches as well. He has to cultivate the mindset where he has to decide which balls to go for and which not," the former batter added.
