Shaheen conceded 22 runs in the last over when Sri Lanka needed 28 runs to win the match.
Pakistan were knocked out of the T20 World Cup 2026 following the Super 8 stage, missing out on the semifinals of an ICC men's event for the fourth successive time.
The Salman Ali Agha-led side suffered a humiliating 61-run defeat at the hands of India in the group stage and then lost the Super 8 clash against England by two wickets.
While the Men in Green registered a thrilling five-run victory over Sri Lanka in their last Super 8 match, they failed to overtake New Zealand on Net Run Rate to qualify for the semis.
Speaking on Samaa TV, former all-rounder Shahid Afridi vented out his anger after Pakistan were unable to beat Sri Lanka by the required margin to reach the final-four.
In the match, Pakistan piled up 212/8 on the board, but had to limit Sri Lanka to 147 or lower in order to surpass New Zealand's Net Run Rate.
Sri Lanka, despite a shaky start, went on to score 207/6 in 20 overs. In the last over, left-arm pacer Shaheen Afridi, who is Shahid's son-in-law, leaked 22 runs and almost cost his team the match.
"He (Shaheen Afridi) has been playing for some time now. You don't know from where you have to bowl the last over. He has been told many times, he should know these things by now. He has been repeating his old mistakes again and again," Shahid Afridi said.
"When a right-hander is batting, you can't bowl from round the wicket. If one still wants to bowl from that angle, a left-armer has to bowl at the stumps. When the third-man and point fielders are inside the circle, you can't bowl wide yorkers. This angle becomes an easy one for batters to hit on Asian pitches. If you had bowled from over the wicket, it would have been difficult for batters to hit a six. I don't know when these guys will learn. They don't learn, nor do they want to learn," he added.
Meanwhile, reports are claiming that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided slap a fine of PKR 50 lakh each on Pakistani players for their flop show in the T20 World Cup.
According to ESPNCricinfo, the move to penalize the players was made right after Pakistan’s 61-run humiliating defeat against arch-rivals India. Salman Ali Agha and his men were reportedly told the fines may end up being waived off if Pakistan reached the semifinals, but they couldn’t deliver the result.
