England became the first team to qualify for the semi-finals of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026, as they defeated Pakistan in a nervy win on February 24, 2026, in a Super 8s stage game. This match was played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Pallekele, Sri Lanka.
Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha won the toss and chose to bat first. Sahibzada Farhan made 63 in 45 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes, while Babar Azam and Fakhara Zaman made 25 runs each. Shadab Khan slammed 23 in 11 balls as Pakistan posted 164/9 in 20 overs.
For England, Liam Dawson took 3/24, while Jofra Archer and Jamie Overton took two wickets each.
In reply, England lost some quick wickets and were 58/4 in no time. But Harry Brook kept counter-attacking from one end and got some support from Sam Curran (16) and Will Jacks (28). However, Brooks was a one-man show as he slammed 100 in 51 balls with 10 fours and 4 sixes.
Pakistan managed to take the match to the last over, but England managed to win the game by 2 wickets. Shaheen Afridi took 4/30, while Mohammad Nawaz and Usman Tariq took two wickets each.
Harry Brook’s England became the first team into the T20 World Cup 2026 semis with this win, and the cricket fraternity was all proud of the knock played by the England captain and shared the same on social media.
