BCB had wrote a letter to PCB asking them to play India in T20 World Cup.
Bangladesh has consistently supported the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) since 2025. They supported Pakistan in the Asia Cup trophy scandal, and in exchange, Pakistan opted to boycott the India match in the T20 World Cup 2026 when the International Cricket Council (ICC) barred the Bangladeshi squad from competing.
After Bangladesh declined to play in India, the ICC, chaired by Jay Shah, issued a severe judgment. However, Pakistan reversed course after the International Cricket Council announced that no action would be taken against Bangladesh for failing to follow the T20 World Cup schedule.
Nonetheless, BCB chief Islam will have another opportunity to strengthen ties with India and the BCCI when he visits the India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup 2026 match in Colombo.
While announcing the upcoming meeting, Islam hinted that it will be utilized to break the ice between the boards and improve connections.
“The ICC has taken a decision. The major stakeholders of the ICC are these five Asian countries (India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan) for the India-Pakistan match on the 15th in the World Cup.
They want representatives of all five Asian countries to be present on the ground together, watch the match together, and talk to one another. You can consider it as something like that (an icebreaker between us),” Islam told Bangladeshi newspaper Prothom Alo.
Furthermore, Aminul Islam stated that BCB will be signing an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with the ICC so that the compromises reached during the recent talks are strictly adhered to.
“We will also enter into an agreement. The agreement will be line by line, an MoU-type [Memorandum of Understanding] document, so that there is no uncertainty. You know that earlier, when we held the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Annual General Meeting in Dhaka, a similar issue arose. There as well, we prepared an MoU-type document so that no one could ever deviate from the contract in any way. Similar discussions (regarding preparing the MoU) with the ICC are more or less finalized,” he said.
Reports had stated that Islam played a huge role in getting Pakistan to reverse its decision to boycott the India T20 World Cup match by writing a letter to the PCB.
