The selectors also named squads for next month’s white-ball tour of Sri Lanka, including three T20Is and as many ODIs, which is seen as the final dress rehearsal for the global showpiece.
Speedster Jofra Archer has been included in the T20 World Cup squad after his Ashes-ending injury. He sustained a left side strain during the third Test at the Adelaide Oval earlier this month, ruling him out of the last two fixtures in Melbourne and Sydney. Archer will also miss the Sri Lanka tour as he continues his recovery.
Pace bowler Josh Tongue, who is yet to make his white-ball debut for England, has been rewarded for his Ashes performances with inclusion in the T20 World Cup squad.
Tongue's selection led to Brydon Carse’s exclusion from the T20 World Cup squad, but the seamer will feature in the preceding series in Sri Lanka.
All-rounder Will Jacks made the cut in both squads after missing the white-ball tour of New Zealand in October with a broken finger. There was no place for Jamie Smith, who is also not picked for the three-match ODI series in Sri Lanka as Zak Crawley returned to the 50-over fold for the first time since December 2023.
Two-time champions England will open their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign against Nepal in Mumbai on February 8, followed by group games versus West Indies on February 11 (Mumbai), Bangladesh on February 14 (Kolkata) and Italy on February 16 (Kolkata).
