South Africa defeated India in the 4th ‘Pink’ ODI at Johannesburg by 5 wickets and kept themselves alive in the series.

However, their victory celebrations took a hit when Andy Pycroft of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees imposed a fine on the Proteas team for their slow over rate as Aiden Markram’s side was ruled to be one over short of their target when time allowances were taken into consideration.

Aiden Markram, captain of South Africa was fined 20% of the match fees, while remaining players received a fine of 10% of their match fees.

In accordance with Article 2.5.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Players Support Personnel, which relates to minor over-rate offences, players are fined 10 percent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, with the captain fined double that amount.

If South Africa commits such a mistake again in the next 12 months with Markram as the captain, it will be considered second offense by Markram and he will be suspended.

Markram pleaded guilty to the offense and accepted the proposed sanction. The charge was leveled by on-field umpires Aleem Dar and Bongani Jele, third umpire Ian Gould, and fourth umpire Shaun George.
