Charith Asalanka receives some expletives from Kohli as he was dismissed LBW.
Charith Asalanka, the Sri Lanka captain won the toss and chose to bat first for the third time in the series. Maheesh Theekshana came in for Akila Dhananjaya for Sri Lanka. For India, Rishabh Pant came in for KL Rahul and Riyan Parag made his India ODI debut in place of Arshdeep Singh.
Sri Lanka openers Pathum Nissanka and Avishka Fernando gave a good start to the team, adding 89 runs in 20 overs for the first wicket. Nissanka fell for 45 runs to Akshar Patel, but then Fernando and Kusal Mendis added 82 runs for the second wicket.
Then Riyan Parag showed his magic with the ball, removing Fernando on 96 runs. Lankan captain Asalanka then joined Mendis and started building a partnership. But Riyan Parag was at it again. Asalanka was trapped LBW by Parag for just 10 runs leaving Sri Lanka 183/4 in 38 overs.
Before Asalanka got out, Virat Kohli, who was fielding at mid-off had begun to get under the skin of the Sri Lanka captain with a few words said. Kohli even threw the ball in Asalanka’s direction and glared at the batter.
When Parag got him out LBW, Kohli gave him an animated send-off and even uttered some expletives towards the Lankan captain during celebrations.
