India registered their first T20I series win under the new regime of coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Suryakumar Yadav. India defeated Sri Lanka in the third and final T20I in super over and pocketed the series 3-0 on Tuesday, July 30.

India found it hard to bat on a tough pitch, but still managed to post 137/9 with Shubman Gill top-scoring with 39 runs. Riyan Parag (26) and Washington Sundar (25) also chipped in with vital runs to give India hope.

In response, Sri Lanka had a good start with Pathum Nissanka (26), Kusal Mendis (43), and Kusal Perera (46) giving the hosts a flying start. Sri Lanka was 110/1 in the 16th over and needed 28 runs in 28 balls to win.

But then collapse happened and Sri Lanka could only manage to tie the match. In the super over, Washington Sundar took 2 wickets and kept Sri Lanka to 2 runs, chased down on the first ball. Suryakumar Yadav hit a four to give India the win in super over and a 3-0 series win.

Following the win, as the team assembled for the trophy celebration, captain Suryakumar handed the title to Riyan Parag and Rinku Singh as the shutterbugs captured the moment.

After this, the team was joined by coaching and support staff, when Rinku and Parag then walked up to Gambhir, urging him to take center stage with the trophy in hand, given it was his first assignment as the head coach of the team.

However, Gambhir refused to be in the limelight and opted to stand with the support staff at the side.
