Sri Lanka on Tuesday (July 23) announced a 16-member squad for their upcoming home T20I series against World Champions India.

The hosts named middle-order batter Charith Asalanka as their captain for the series. Asalanka takes over from Wanindu Hasaranga, who relinquished captaincy after Sri Lanka's early exit from the T20 World Cup last month.

Hasaranga stills remains an integral part of the side. The revamped squad also sees veteran all-rounder Angelo Mathews getting dropped while former captain Dasun Shanaka retained his place in the team.

Senior players such as Dinesh Chandimal and Kusal Perera have made their way back to the team after being snubbed for the T20 World Cup 2024.

Matheesha Pathirana and Maheesh Theekshana, who play for CSK in the IPL, have been picked for the T20I series against India after their impressive display in the Lanka Premier League.

Furthermore, Chamindu Wickramasinghe, Binura Fernando and Avishka Fernando made the cut while Sadeera Samarawickrama and Dilshan Madhushanka were left out of the side.

The three-match T20I series between Sri Lanka and India is slated to get underway on July 27. All the games will be played in Pallekele.

Following the T20I series, the two teams will lock horns in a three-match ODI series, starting on August 2 in Colombo.
