The T20I series is scheduled to get underway on July 27 in Pallekele.
The Men in Blue will travel to the island nation with nearly a full-strength squad as the likes of Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Akshar Patel and Arshdeep Singh returned to the side after being rested for the recently held Zimbabwe tour.
While Shubman Gill had led India’s second-string team on the tour of Zimbabwe, Suryakumar has been handed the T20I captaincy for the Sri Lanka series. Surya will succeed the legendary Rohit Sharma, who retired from T20Is last month.
Besides Rohit, the duo of Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja also bowed out from the international shortest format after the T20 World Cup 2024 triumph, vacating a few spots in the line-up.
As a result, young guns like Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal have been included in the squad. Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant are the two wicketkeeper batters in the team, also featuring big hitters such as Rinku Singh and Shivam Dube. Riyan Parag, who made his debut during the tour of Zimbabwe, also retained his place in the team.
Ravi Bishnoi is the premier spinner in the side, also including Washington Sundar as a spin all-rounder alongside Akshar.
Arshdeep will spearhead the pace attack alongside Mohammed Siraj. Khaleel Ahmed is another fast-bowling option in the squad.
