Sri Lanka’s Sonal Dinusha hit a stunning century on Day 5 of the second Test against India at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) in Colombo. Remarkably, this was his second century of the same match, making him the 8th Sri Lanka batter to score hundreds in both innings of a Test.

This performance followed his maiden Test century scored in the first Test at Galle. Throughout the two-match series against India's world-class bowling lineup, Dinusha crossed the 50-plus run mark in four consecutive innings (100, 84, 103, and 133*), consolidating his position as Sri Lanka's breakout star.

Thanks to his heroics, the Colombo Test ended in a draw and Sri Lanka avoided a 2-0 whitewash on home soil.

Batting first, India declared at 503/9 and then bundled out the hosts for 290 to secure a 213-run first-innings lead. The visitors enforced the follow-on, but Sri Lankan batters displayed remarkable resilience in their second innings.

While Sonal Dinusha stole the show with his ton, the likes of Pasindu Sooriyabandara (92), Kamindu Mendis (55) and Keshara Nuwantha (46) also returned with valuable contributions.

After the fall of the sixth wicket, Sri Lanka’s lower-order batters dug in and collectively spent close to 90 overs at the crease. In total, the home team played out 154 overs to reach 429/9 in their second innings before players decided to shake hands to settle on a draw.

Despite the gritty draw pulled off by Sri Lanka in Colombo, India clinched the Test series 1-0 due to their clinical 195-run victory in the first Test at Galle.

For his spectacular show in the Colombo Test and throughout the series, Sonal Dinusha garnered rich praise from the cricket fraternity on social media.
