Rishabh Pant had suffered a wrist injury and resumed his innings after Saransh Jain's dismissal.
Devdutt Padikkal made 117, Shubman Gill made 50, Yashasvi Jaiswal made 45, and Ravindra Jadeja made 43 runs, while Saransh Jain and Dhruv Jurel were the unbeaten batters. However, India lost Jain early on day 2, and Rishabh Pant joined Jurel in the middle.
Pant and Jurel took the attack to the Sri Lankan batters and notched up their respective half-centuries as well. The duo added 112 runs together, with Pant making 63 off 6 fours and 2 sixes before his dismissal.
The Indian keeper-batter was very lucky to escape one instance where he could’ve been out. The incident happened on the 3rd delivery of the 94th over bowled by Asith Fernando. The Sri Lankan pacer bowled a very good bouncer at Pant, who was caught between ducking and swaying back and ended up getting hit on the shoulder.
The ball went up in the air after hitting his shoulder, and as it came down with gravity doing its job, the ball almost landed on the stumps. It missed the stumps by a matter of 2-3 inches as Pant looked on with his heart in his mouth.
