KL Rahul stood up tall for India in tough batting conditions on Day 1 of the Boxing Day Test.
Playing his first Test as a wicketkeeper-batter, Rahul batted with aggressive intent to notch up his half-century in 80 deliveries.
The visitors were 208/8 after 59 overs with Rahul batting on 70* off 105 balls (10 fours and 2 sixes) when the rain interrupted play and forced the officials to call off the day eventually.
Rahul’s unbeaten knock also frustrated the Proteas left-arm pacer Marco Jansen. During the final session of the day, Jansen looked agitated and said something in Rahul's direction. However, the Indian wicketkeeper did nothing but smile.
