India seamer Mohammad Shami has spoken about his availability for the upcoming two-Test series in South Africa which will be played in Centurion on December 16 and in Cape Town on January 3.

Shami, who was the leading wicket-taker in ICC World Cup 2023, was rested by the BCCI for the white-ball leg of India’s tour to South Africa.

Shami picked 24 wickets in ICC World Cup 2023 in 7 matches including 3 fifers and a best bowling figure of 7/57. He has not played any cricket since then as he was rested from the Australia T20Is and the white-ball leg of the South Africa tour.

However, when BCCI had named the squad for the South Africa tour, Mohammad Shami’s name was included in the Test squad, but conditionally, as the board revealed that the pacer was struggling with fitness and dealing with an injury.

And now Mohammad Shami has revealed that he is dealing with a persisting knee trouble that has plagued him for a considerable duration.

"I am ready to go, but only if there is no pain. There was some irritation in my knee for a very long time. I will have to get some tests and checkups done. So, if it is at the stage where it won't trouble me again, I will surely go for the Test series,” Shami told Sports Tak.

The seasoned campaigner also expressed his desire to feature in India's squad for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup.

"Obviously, I am ready. I will try to make sure that we don't make the same mistakes again," Shami added.
