Shaun Pollock was discussing the Dean Elgar catch during the mid-break show.
The South Africa –Pakistan Test at the SuperSport Park in Centurion has seen many batting collapses from both sides, leaving South Africa a target of 149 runs to win the match.
During the chase, Dean Elgar edged a ball from Shaheen Afridi to Azhar Ali in the 1st slip, who caught a good catch low down, or so he thought. The on-field umpires decided to refer the catch to the 3rd umpire, as the catch wasn’t cleanly taken.
After many replays and using zoom function, the 3rd umpire gave Elgar not out, much to the chagrin of Pakistani team, especially captain Sarfraz Ahmed and Azhar Ali.
The whole episode was re-enacted by commentators Graeme Smith and Shaun Pollock, who showed how low catches in slips can seem inconclusive. This was done during the innings break.
However, during one such display of catch, Pollock seemingly bent too low to catch the ball and split the back of his trousers, much to the humor of his colleagues and the incident was replayed during the Proteas innings.
However, thanks to the South African dressing room, he got a replacement pair of pants and everyone was happy at last.
