The third ODI between the two sides will be played in Hamilton on November 10.
Team India came out victors in the recent second ODI against New Zealand, which was affected by rain. Wellington hosted the second ODI on November 7, 2026, which saw India win the toss, and Shubman Gill chose to bowl first.
India came into the match with a 1-0 advantage after winning the first ODI by five wickets in Auckland. After winning the toss, they dismissed New Zealand for a mere 134 runs. Daryl Mitchell was the top scorer with 55 runs, while the Indian pacers dominated in helpful conditions. Mitchell Santner's 31 was the next highest score.
Gurnoor Brar stood out among the bowlers with four wickets, while Auqib Nabi, Axar Patel, and Anshul Kamboj each claimed two wickets.
New Zealand made India's batters work hard, with captain Shubman Gill falling for a golden duck and Virat Kohli making 7 runs. Rohit Sharma fell for 23, while Shreyas Iyer made 30 as India kept losing wickets. India looked in trouble at 113/7 with KL Rahul still in the middle for 26* when clouds opened up again.
This time rains didn’t let up, and India was announced as the winners by the DLS method, as they were 4 runs ahead of the par score. Gurnoor Brar was named the Player of the Match for his 4/30 bowling performance.
India captain Shubman Gill was elated at winning the game but conceded that things weren’t easy out in the middle.
“As long as we get the win ... it wasn't easy out there. I think we bowled very well. Getting them around 130–140 was good. At one point, we thought it might be an easy target, but we kept losing wickets. We got over the line in the end,” Gill said during the presentation ceremony, as quoted by Cricbuzz.
Shubman Gill praised India's bowlers, especially Gurnoor Brar, as they helped keep New Zealand down to 134 runs.
“Gurnoor, even in the last match as well, has been bowling really well. Hopefully, as he plays more games and gets more experience, he'll become more consistent with his line and length. He's got the pace; he's got the bounce. It's all about how consistent he can be, and we saw today the kind of quality he brings if he can keep bowling like this.
Most of them have all the qualities that are needed. It's all about performing under pressure. International cricket is all about performing under pressure and getting that experience, bowling day in and day out, and trying to deliver under pressure. That's the key point for us,” Gill praised his bowlers.
Shubman Gill was not happy with the way India lost its last two wickets, while admitting that conditions were very tough in the middle.
“Yeah, the pitch was definitely challenging. But I think we lost two extra wickets than we would have liked in the end. We knew the rain might come in at the end. And the last two shots that we played ... don't look good. If we had lost this match by DLS, four or five runs, it would have definitely been a stinker for us. But happy to get over the line,” Gill concluded.
India went 2-0 up in the three-game ODI series, with Hamilton hosting the third ODI on November 10.
