Kohli made 74 runs to help India win the first ODI by 5 wickets.
New Zealand batters struggled against the bounce and movement that Indian bowlers extracted from the Auckland pitch. Tim Seifert (38), Daryl Mitchell (28), and Glenn Phillips (30), and some lusty blows by Blair Tickner (34 in 23 balls) took New Zealand to 185 runs in 40.2 overs.
During the Kiwi innings, Glenn Phillips walked out to bat to WWE superstar John Cena’s theme song in the background. Cameras saw Kohli making fun of Phillips from the other side of the field when Phillips was chatting with Daryl Mitchell, but the two disregarded it.
But Kohli didn't stop there; as Phillips was about to take guard, he approached him and made the well-known "you can't see me" motion made popular by John Cena once more.

Kohli also had a field day with the bat as well, as India lost Rohit Sharma early for a duck. But Kohli slammed 74 runs in 51 balls with 13 fours and one six and added 113 runs for the second wicket with captain Shubman Gill (37). India went on to win the match by 5 wickets as they chased down a revised target of 143 runs in 22.4 overs.
