Mohammed Siraj will lead the Indian pace attack in the upcoming five-ODI series against New Zealand, which begins in Auckland on November 4. He will also feature in the two-test series between the two sides that begins on November 19 in Wellington.

Siraj will be one of the stars to watch out for in both the ODIs and Tests, given that he is now a senior voice, no longer the boy in the brand-new cap. He recently captained Hyderabad in the ongoing Ranji Trophy and fine-tuned his bowling at the Gymkhana under the watchful eyes of T. Dilip, the former India fielding coach.

The former Black Caps captain Tim Southee recently remarked that whereas the Kiwi batsmen have learned everything about Jasprit Bumrah, it is Siraj’s unpredictability that would prove to be a new challenge altogether.

Siraj, on his part, is looking forward to playing his game in a country where only swing and not just seam makes the difference.

“I am very excited to play in New Zealand, because a fast bowler needs grass and bounce. It will be very challenging because there will be a lot of ball swinging. My plan is simple: you have to enjoy,” Siraj told Sportstar.

One thing that he fears before taking on a difficult task is laziness. He has been very clear that his body doesn’t appreciate laziness at all; he is most comfortable when he is deeply engrossed in match situations. According to him, the work has helped him maintain a great rhythm.

Ask Siraj about personal goals, and he declines the premise.

“I’m not a believer in milestones. It’s all about collecting wins and memories as a team. I had nothing at the beginning, and I have everything now. I have a fan following. I thank the Almighty Allah who brought me here, and I’m very grateful for that. My only plan and thought are to keep myself grounded. I will keep working hard for my country, and I will keep winning matches for my country,” Siraj stated.

Mohammed Siraj recently played in the second four-day game between India A and New Zealand A and took four wickets.
