Naman Dhir is delivering match-winning performances for India in the ongoing T20I series against New Zealand.
Naman Dhir has developed into a reliable all-rounder for the Mumbai Indians since joining the franchise in 2024, sharpening his skills through guidance from coaches and senior players.
Rubbing shoulders with premier white-ball stars like Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Hardik Pandya has clearly accelerated his growth.
This transition has translated seamlessly to the international stage, where Dhir recently delivered standout match-winning contributions for India during the T20I series in New Zealand.
Speaking to Cricbuzz, MI’s newly-appointed head coach Kieron Pollard shared insight on Naman Dhir’s progress over the last three seasons.
“Naman has come a long way since he first joined Mumbai Indians in 2024. We saw the potential in him early on, and it has been encouraging to see how he has worked on his game, adapted to different roles and grown in confidence,” Pollard said.
With the franchise retaining Dhir via a Right to Match (RTM) card at the mega auction ahead of the 2025 season, the foundation is set for him to play a central role under Pollard’s supervision.
“He is someone who wants to learn, listens to the people around him and is willing to put in the hard work. That is an important part of a player journey. At the same time, we must remember that Naman is only at the beginning of his career. There is a lot more for him to learn, experience and achieve,” Pollard added.
Naman Dhir has completely transformed India's lower-order dynamics in the ongoing T20I series against New Zealand. Stepping into the high-pressure finisher role at Hagley Oval in Christchurch, his explosive cameos provided the decisive edge in back-to-back matches.
In the series opener, Dhir blasted an unbeaten 42 off just 15 balls. This explosive performance carried India across the line to complete their highest-ever successful T20I run chase (226) and broke Irfan Pathan's 17-year-old record for the highest score by an Indian batting at No. 7 or lower in a successful chase.
He proved his consistency in the second T20I, chipping in with a crucial 31 off 17 balls at a strike rate of 182.35 to anchor yet another close victory.
Pollard highlighted Dhir's strong temperament, reiterating that the franchise is focused on creating a supportive environment to shield him from outside noise while he continues to mature into a frontline international asset.
“As a team, our responsibility has always been to give him the time, space and backing to keep developing, without putting unnecessary pressure or expectations on him. Being part of the MI family means knowing that you have people around you who will support you through the highs and the lows,” Pollard stated.
“Naman has shown that he has the ability and the temperament to grow into a good player and we want to help him build a long career, built on good performances with the bat and ball. So the focus is on creating a supportive environment and to give all the young players the encouragement they need, to take the next step in their careers,” the MI coach concluded.
