New Zealand Cricket has named an extended 19-member 'A' squad featuring 11 international players for a three-match unofficial Test series with India A, slated to get underway on October 24 in Lincoln.

This series serves as a critical red-ball preparation platform for both sides before the senior national teams clash in their two-match World Test Championship series starting on November 19 in Wellington.

Canterbury's Rhys Mariu will lead New Zealand A for the first two matches. A decision on the captain for the third match will be taken later.

The squad includes Adi Ashok, Kristian Clarke, Dean Foxcroft, Matt Fisher, Mitch Hay, Jaden Lennox, Ben Lister, Henry Nicholls and Tim Robinson. All of them have international experience under their belt.

The series will run parallel to Blackcaps' white-ball assignment against India and New Zealand's domestic 50-over competition, the Ford Trophy.

13 players will be selected for each match. The remaining players will remain available for their domestic cricket commitments.

To adjust to local conditions, India have sent a highly competitive squad led by Dhruv Jurel. It features key senior Test regulars like Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Devdutt Padikkal, and Washington Sundar.

"They [India] have announced a very strong line up, which poses a great opportunity for growth as players to test their strengths against international class," Pete Sanford, NZC head of high-performance development, said. "There's a huge buzz around having India on our shores and I know the squad are raring to get their domestic summer underway."

Young fast-bowling all-rounder Cam Paul could might debut for New Zealand A as well, having missed the previous tour because of injury. The 21-year-old has claimed five wickets in an innings twice in his five first-class matches with a bowling average just under 22.

"You always want to test yourself against the best and potentially playing against some of those guys is a huge opportunity," Paul said. "I was gutted to just miss out on the last tour, so I'm fizzed to be part of the squad and take that next step up."
