The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has been ruled out of the second T20I against New Zealand, scheduled for Saturday (October 24) at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch.

Ishan sustained a low-grade right adductor strain during India's series opener in Christchurch on Thursday (October 22). The medical team is currently monitoring his recovery progress.

The BCI shared an update on X, stating, "Ishan Kishan is ruled out of the second T20I against New Zealand due to a low-grade right adductor strain, which he sustained during the first T20I of the series. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring his progress."

Addressing the media after the first T20I, India's batting coach Sitanshu Kotak had indicated that Kishan was unlikely to feature in the match due to a groin niggle.

"Ishan has a slight groin niggle. I feel tomorrow's match is also unlikely [for him to feature]," Kotak said.

Ishan Kishan managed to score just one run while batting at No. 5 in the first T20I. He was dismissed by New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner. With Kishan sidelined, teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is highly anticipated to make his return to the playing XI.

Having won the opening match by chasing down 226 runs with four wickets in hand, the visitors have secured a 1-0 lead in the five-T20I series.
