Glenn Phillips starred with the bat for the Kiwis, smashing 82* off 40 balls.
The much-anticipated five-match T20I series between India and New Zealand got underway on Thursday (October 22) at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch.
Invited to bat first, the hosts racked up a mammoth total of 225/4 on the board. Glenn Phillips starred with the bat for the Kiwis, smashing 82* off 40 balls with 8 fours and 3 sixes.
The highlight of Phillips' whirlwind knock was the boundary he hit off veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar on the final delivery of New Zealand’s innings.
Phillips completely flipped his stance to bat left-handed and executed a spectacular switch-hit, sending the ball through the gaps to the extra cover boundary. The inventive boundary added to a rough comeback for Bhuvneshwar, who was hit for 49 runs across his 4 wicketless overs.

Glenn Phillips' audacious boundary to close out the New Zealand innings was also commended by former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan on X.
Pathan wrote, “That last ball shot from Glenn Phillips is the most atrocious shot i have seen on the cricketing field vs fast bowler. He is Something. Extraordinary!”
Apart from Phillips, Finn Allen (45 off 24) and Bevon Jacobs (31 off 16) made vital contributions with the bat. For India, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh and Mayank Yadav took one wicket each.
