The Indian team management may be thinking differently but as far as former Aussie captain Ricky Ponting is concerned, there is absolutely no doubt that young Rishabh Pant is one of the country's most promising young talents and should be back into the playing XI soon.

Pant suffered concussion playing recently against Australia in an ODI in Mumbai and despite recovering, has since been replaced by KL Rahul as the team's first-choice wicketkeeper batsman in limited-overs cricket.

This, after he was dropped from the Test side following Wriddhiman Saha's comeback from a lengthy injury sabbatical late last year despite proving his mettle on tours to England and Australia; leaving the youngster uncertain of when next is he going to get an opportunity.

Ponting, however, believes this uncertain phase will be shortlived.

"Rishabh Pant is a young man with a huge amount of talent. I'm looking forward to working with him again during the IPL and I'm sure he'll be back in the Indian team sooner rather than later," he tweeted in a question-answer session with his fans.

Ponting is the head coach in the IPL for Delhi Capitals, for whom Pant remains their first-choice gloveman and middle-order batsman.

Pant can make it to the playing XI as a specialist batsman alone, especially in T20Is, but that option hasn't yet been considered by skipper Virat Kohli and head coach Ravi Shastri during the ongoing five-match series in New Zealand.
