BCCI has invited applications for two positions in BCCI men's selection panel.
Subroto Banerjee, a former pacer for India, is currently representing the Central Zone on the selection committee. Praveen, who played six Test matches, 68 ODIs, and 10 T20Is for India between 2007 and 2012 and took 112 wickets, has applied to be a national selector, sources told IANS on Friday.
Praveen Kumar has been the Uttar Pradesh chief selector since last year.
“Yes, it is confirmed that Praveen Kumar has applied to be the next national selector from the Central Zone. Now it will be fascinating to see who all put their hand up, with the deadline now just five days away,” the sources told IANS.
The new applicants for the senior men's selection committee must have retired from cricket at least five years prior, according to the BCCI's description. A minimum of seven Test matches or thirty first-class matches, or ten ODIs and twenty first-class matches, should have been played by the ideal candidate.
Furthermore, the candidates must not have been part of any BCCI Cricket Committee for a period of five years. The other members of the senior men's selection committee are Agarkar, SS Das, and Ajay Ratra.
“With the deadline coming close now, you never know if he may give it a go,” added the sources.
From 2005 to 2011, RP Singh played 82 games for India in all forms, taking 124 wickets in total. He was a part of the team captained by MS Dhoni that won the first men's T20 World Cup in South Africa in 2007.
Additionally, Singh was a member of the BCCI Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) from 2020 to 2022 before departing to work as a Mumbai Indians talent scout.
Furthermore, Pragyan Ojha has applied for the selector post from the South Zone. Ojha played 24 Tests, 18 ODIs, and six T20Is for India from 2008 to 2013 and took 144 wickets at the international level.
