According to sources, as part of this inquiry into an "illegal" betting software called 1xBet, the investigating agency will record his statement under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
It is believed that the 39-year-old former cricket player for India was connected to the app through specific endorsements. During the interrogation, the ED wants to know how he is connected to this app.
The bureau is looking into several cases involving unlawful betting apps that are accused of evading a significant amount of taxes or defrauding investors and customers out of crores of rupees.
The investigation team questioned former cricket player Suresh Raina last month. The Union government has outlawed real-money online gaming through recent laws.
Suresh Raina, 38, was questioned by the ED for almost eight hours. According to the sources, Raina's remark was recorded by the federal investigative agency under the PMLA as part of its investigation into a sports betting app called 1xBet.
As part of its investigation, the agency recently summoned Google and Meta executives to testify. On Tuesday, it also carried out multi-state searches as part of a related probe into the Parimatch online betting app.
The agency is looking into a number of these cases involving unlawful betting apps that allegedly avoided paying a significant amount of taxes or defrauded investors and people out of crores of rupees.
The online betting app market in India is worth over USD 100 billion, which is growing at a rate of 30 percent, according to experts.
