Shivam Mavi has played six T20Is for India and 32 IPL matches for KKR.
India pacer Shivam Mavi has revealed titbits about crucial advice he received from the legendary MS Dhoni during his time in the Indian Premier League. Mavi, who plays for Uttar Pradesh in Indian domestic cricket, has also turned up for India in T20Is.
Mavi made his India debut in 2023 and played six T20Is, taking 7 wickets with a best of 4/22, and also showed brilliance with the bat. He has been part of the Indian Premier League as well, playing 32 games for the KKR franchise, taking 30 wickets with a best of 4/21 and an economy of 8.70.
Shivam Mavi has also been part of the Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants franchises, but hasn’t been able to get a game due to combination issues and injuries.
During an interview with Crictracker, Shivam Mavi opened up about the franchise he wanted to play in the IPL.
“Chennai Super Kings, because I’ve always heard that Mahi bhai is a bowler’s captain. He gives a lot of freedom and makes our job easier by setting up the field. We just have to execute on what ball you’re trying to bowl. A lot to learn from him,” Mavi told Crictracker.
Mavi was also asked about the advice he got from MS Dhoni during their interactions during the IPL.
“He used to advise me that in T20 cricket, even if you concede 40 runs in 2-3 overs, what really matters is if you can bowl the last over well, conceding only 6-7 runs and picking up 1-2 wickets to win the game for your team. Every single ball is crucial and needs to be executed properly. Youngsters often overthink when they get hit for a six, and that creates unnecessary pressure. But if you prepare well and focus on executing each ball, the pressure will automatically reduce,” Mavi added.
Mavi had gone unsold in the IPL 2025 auction due to injury concerns, but has resolved to make a comeback in the IPL and to the Indian team as well.
