Jurel was to captain Central Zone, and Easwaran was East Zone captain.
Dhruv Jurel, the wicketkeeper-batter who was selected as the Central Zone captain for their quarterfinal matchup with the Northeast Zone, has been ruled out due to a groin injury.
"Jurel has picked up a groin niggle on the eve of the match, and he has been asked to skip this match by the selectors. He is also in the standbys of the Asia Cup squad, and the selectors don't want to take any risk. Right after the Asia Cup, India will be playing four Test matches at home, and with uncertainty over (Rishabh) Pant's injury, Jurel has been asked not to take any risk,” a BCCI source told the Times of India.
In Jurel's absence, Madhya Pradesh's Rajat Patidar, who led Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to their first IPL trophy in 18 years, is captaining Central Zone.
On the other hand, Abhimanyu Easwaran, who was part of the Indian squad for the recent England tour, has caught the flu and missed the encounter. Easwaran was named East Zone captain after Ishan Kishan was ruled out due to injury.
Now, with Kishan and Easwaran both out due to issues, East Zone named Assam’s Riyan Parag as captain for their first match in the Duleep Trophy 2025.
