Cheteshwar Pujara played 103 Tests and 5 ODIs for India from 2010-2023.
He played 103 Tests for India from 2010 to 2023, in which he scored 7195 runs, scoring 19 centuries as well. He also appeared in five ODIs for India, scoring 51 runs.
However, Pujara's retirement was not shocking because he had been absent from Team India for more than a few years, and there had always been speculation about when he would opt to quit the game.
On Sunday morning, Pujara confirmed his retirement from Indian cricket on X. Many current and former cricket players paid rich tribute to Pujara when he ended his career, and his wife, Puja Pabari, sent an emotional statement for him on Monday.
Puja expressed her happiness that Cheteshwar gave it his all and played the game in his own composed and respectable manner in the post that went viral online.
She posted on Instagram: “‘Be in the present, as the present is the present of the supreme presence’—a guiding principle of the Bhagavad Gita, which is something you have been living by for quite some time now, and I hope it continues to guide you in this next phase!
As you bid goodbye to your first love, passion, and the sport you love so much, I am glad you always gave it your all and played the game in your own calm and dignified way!
From knowing nothing about cricket to loving you and the sport through your eyes—your journey has been a true education in life’s lessons for me, and I couldn’t be more grateful to have gone through the highs and lows of your career together!
I will miss cheering you on the field, following the unshakeable routines, and at times, maybe also the anxiousness before a match/series. For all the missed celebrations and adjustments madetoo prioritize cricket, let’s make up for it now."
