Sourav Ganguly will replace Jonathan Trott as Pretoria Capitals head coach.
Former India cricketer and BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly has been named the new head coach of the Pretoria Capitals franchise in the South African SA20 League 2026.
Ganguly replaces England’s Jonathan Trott, who coached the franchise in one season. Before the 2025 SA20 season, Trott was named head coach; however, with only two victories in ten group games, the team was unable to advance to the knockout stages.
Pretoria Capitals confirmed the same on social media, saying, "Jonathan Trott, forever grateful for your leadership and unwavering dedication to the team. All the best on your next adventure! Once a Capital, always a Capital!"
Jonathan Trott is currently Afghanistan's coach and will guide the squad in the Asia Cup 2025 in the UAE and the 2026 T20 World Cup, which will be held in India and Sri Lanka.
Ganguly has never been appointed head coach of a franchise cricket team before. Ganguly formerly served as the Delhi Capitals' Team Director from 2018–19 until 2022–24. But this would be the first time he would take over as head coach of any team worldwide.
The development was confirmed by Pretoria Capitals' official Instagram handle.
Taking to the platform, the handle wrote, “The Prince is all set to bring a royal flair to the Capitals camp! We are ecstatic to announce Sourav Ganguly as our new head coach. The Centurion awaits.”
The SA20 has been moved up to 2026 in order to avoid conflict with the T20 World Cup. The South Africa T20 tournament's next season will take place between December 26 and January 25.
