Ben Stokes and Wiaan Mulder were also nominated for the award.
The 25-year-old had an incredible July, scoring 567 runs at a phenomenal average of 94.50 in three Test matches and blasting two hundreds and a double hundred in six appearances.
Overall, Shubman Gill ended the five-Test series with 754 runs in 10 innings with four centuries to his name as India managed to draw the series 2-2 with a fighting draw in Manchester and a narrow six-wicket win at the Oval. He was named the Player of the Series for his efforts.
It was Gill's first outing as India's Test captain, and the 25-year-old said it was a nice honor to be recognized.
"It feels great to be named the ICC Player of the Month for July. This time it holds a lot more significance since it has come from my performances during my first test series as captain. The double ton in Birmingham is obviously something I will cherish forever and will be one of the highlights of my tour to England,” Shubman Gill told the ICC.
"The Test series against England was a learning experience for me as captain, and we had some outstanding performances from both sides, which I am sure players from both sides will remember for a long time. I would like to thank the jury for selecting me for this award and my teammates who have been with me during the course of this exciting series. I look forward to continuing my form in the season ahead and bringing more laurels for the country,” he added.
Gill has already won Player of the Month in February of this year and in January and September of 2023, making this his fourth ICC Player of the Month award.
Ash Gardner of Australia and Hayley Matthews, the captain of the West Indies, are the only female players to have won the monthly award four times, while Gill is the only male player to do so.
