The Asia Cup 2025 is likely to be played at neutral venue despite India being the hosts.
While the AGM went forward as planned, Cricbuzz says that elections—particularly for the position of vice president—were not held. However, the contentious finance bill/accounts were approved.
Given the heightened political tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack and reciprocal drone strikes, there were fears that the Asia Cup may be cancelled. Multiple reports have also revealed substantial opposition among Indian cricket supporters to any cricketing connections with Pakistan.
According to insiders at the meeting, the prevailing consensus was that the Asia Cup would proceed, with the BCCI expected to make an official statement soon.
“We can’t confirm for certain, but there was no suggestion that the tournament would be canceled. The BCCI is currently working through issues with commercial partners, and an announcement should come in the next few days,” Cricbuzz quoted a source as saying.
ACC President Mohsin Naqvi confirmed that all 25 member nations were present at the meeting, some joining virtually. “Representatives from all 25 members attended. The BCCI will update us regarding the Asia Cup in the coming days,” he told the assembled media.
Meanwhile, as per PTI, the BCCI secretary, Devajit Saikia, has also confirmed that the BCCI will announce the Asia Cup dates in a few days’ time.
The 2025 Asia Cup is anticipated to feature eight teams and run from September 10 to 28, though it may begin a few days earlier than planned.
Although the BCCI is the designated host, all matches are likely to be played in the UAE due to the ACC's decision to stage the event at a neutral venue rather than in India or Pakistan.
