Rahane's last Test appearance was in July 2023.
Despite the setbacks, the fire is still alive in Rahane to play for India. The 85-Test veteran is gearing up for another domestic season, beginning next month, with the hope of earning a recall to the Test side.
"It's good to be here. I still want to play Test cricket. I am really passionate about playing Test cricket and at this moment, I am enjoying my cricket. Just here for a few days and I carried my training clothes so that I can keep myself fit. Our domestic season is starting so the preparation has just begun," Rahane told Nasser Hussain on Sky Sports Cricket.
Rahane was India’s best batter in the WTC 2023 final, returning with scores of 89 and 46 across two innings. However, his failure on the tour of West Indies saw him falling out of selection reckoning again.
The new selection committee, led by former India pacer Agarkar, decided to move on to the next generation of players.
Rahane also claimed that while he was ready to have a one-on-one conversation, but none of the selectors were willing to talk.
“See, for me, it's all about focusing on the controllable things. Frankly, I tried to have conversations with the selectors, but again, there are things as a player I cannot control. I got no response. For me, as a player, what I can do is to keep playing cricket, keep enjoying the game and give my best every time. I love playing Test cricket, I love playing red ball. And it's a passion, it's a love for the game that always keeps me going,” the Mumbai batter remarked.
