Suryakumar’s treatment will reportedly begin next week.
Suryakumar Yadav is currently in London for sports hernia treatment and will be out of action for a few weeks, according to reports.
While the Shubman Gill-led Indian Test team is gearing up for the five-match series against England, the T20I skipper is using the break in India’s white-ball schedule to focus on his recovery and long-term fitness.
Reports claim that Suryakumar’s treatment will begin next week, and he is expected to return to the cricket field by August.
Although the BCCI has not issued an official statement, reports indicate the medical procedure could require up to two months of recovery.
Suryakumar’s timing for treatment is perfect as the Indian team has no T20I commitments until August, when they travel to Bangladesh for a white-ball tour. This will be followed by a home series against South Africa and the West Indies, and then an away trip to Australia, all part of India’s build-up to the T20 World Cup 2026 at home.
Suryakumar’s decision to undergo the surgery now seems tactical, allowing him to return fully fit for the critical upcoming T20 cycle. He was in fabulous form during the IPL 2025 season.
Playing for Mumbai Indians, Surya amassed 717 runs in 16 matches at an average of 65.18 and a strike rate of 167.9. The dashing right-hander scored 25 or more in all 16 innings, setting a new T20 record for most consecutive 25+ scores.
His prolific run was crucial in taking MI to the playoffs, although their campaign ended in Qualifier 2 with a loss against Punjab Kings. After the 18th edition of IPL, Suryakumar plied his trade in the Mumbai T20 League for Triumph Knights MNE, but the team managed just one win in five matches, missing out on playoff qualification. He aggregated 122 runs in five innings during that stint.
