11 people lost their lives during stampede, several injured as fans gathered for RCB celebrations.
Following this month's devastating stampede in Bengaluru, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is scheduled to meet as an apex council on June 14 to consider new guidelines for the celebrations of the teams' championship victories in their separate competitions.
The incident happened as thousands of Bengaluru fans congregated outside the M Chinnaswamy stadium to see their favorite players before Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) celebrated their IPL victory.
A crowd of around 3 lakh people had assembled to watch RCB celebrate their triumph in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Wednesday, but a stampede outside Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy stadium left 11 people dead and numerous others injured.
"BCCI will call an apex council meeting on June 14 to discuss the IPL celebration and formulate new norms. The meeting could be held virtually," a BCCI Source told ANI.
About the rush event, the Karnataka Police have also filed a formal complaint (FIR) against the Karnataka Cricket Board Administrative Committee, RCB, and other parties.
CM Siddaramaiah also expressed his deep sorrow over the incident.
“A major tragedy occurred during the victory celebrations. It happened near the Chinnaswamy Stadium. The government has announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the deceased. The government will provide free treatment to the injured. Eleven people died and 33 were injured in the stampede. This tragedy should not have happened. The government expresses deep sorrow over this incident,” the Karnataka CM told the media.
In Tuesday's IPL 2025 finals at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, RCB defeated Punjab Kings by six wickets, finally ending an 18-year drought for the prestigious IPL trophy.
