India won two ICC trophies in 2024 T20 World Cup and 2025 Champions Trophy.
The yearly ICC team rankings are out on May 5, 2025, and they see Australia dominating the Test format, while India leads the way in ODIs and T20Is. The most recent rankings assess all matches played since May 2024 at 100 percent and those from the previous two years at 50 percent.
Australia, the reigning World Test Champions, has kept the top rank in the ICC Men's Test Team Rankings, but their lead has been reduced from 15 to 13 points following the yearly update. Pat Cummins' team has a rating of 126, keeping them comfortably ahead of the chase pack.
England, driven by Ben Stokes, stormed to second place, passing South Africa and India. Their better status comes after winning three of their four Test series in the previous year.
England's rating points increased to 113, while South Africa (111) and India (105) dropped one spot to third and fourth, respectively. The rest of the top 10 remains unchanged, with New Zealand holding fifth place, followed by Sri Lanka, Pakistan, West Indies, Bangladesh, and Zimbabwe.
The test table currently only has ten teams ranked. Afghanistan needs to play three more games to be included in the ranking, whereas Ireland needs to play one more Test in the upcoming year.
Coming to the ICC ODI rankings, after winning the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, India improved their rating points from 122 to 124, solidifying their hold on the top spot. The defending ODI World Champions are ranked third, while New Zealand surpasses Australia to take second place.
After a recent run of success at home, which included victories in ODI series against Australia and India, Sri Lanka is now in fourth place with five rating points, ahead of South Africa (sixth with four points lost) and Pakistan (fifth with one point gained).
Afghanistan was the biggest gainer, moving to seventh following a four-point improvement. England fell to eighth after dropping four points. West Indies, meanwhile, rose to the ninth spot after gaining five points to surpass Bangladesh, which dropped to tenth with a four-point decline.
The ICC Men's T20 World Cup champions, India, are currently leading the T20Is, but their margin over Australia, who are in second position, has shrunk from 10 to nine points.
The worldwide T20I rankings now include 100 teams for the first time ever. All teams that have participated in at least eight T20I matches in the previous three years are included in the updated list.
South Africa, New Zealand, and the West Indies are ranked fourth, five, and sixth, respectively, behind England at number three.
Sri Lanka's rise is also evident in the game's shortest format, as they are above Asian rivals Pakistan (8) to take seventh place in the standings. Afghanistan and Bangladesh are in ninth and tenth place, respectively, behind their fellow Asian teams.
