Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma included in ICC Women’s ODI Team of the Year 2024; Laura Wolvaardt named captain

The ICC Women's ODI team of the year 2024 sees a mix of talents across the globe.

The ICC Women's ODI Team of the Year 2024 puts together the year's most exceptional stars, recognizing their domination in the 50-over format. The women’s cricket scene was abuzz with amazing performances throughout the year in the one-day format.

The ICC Women’s ODI Team of the Year 2024 sees Smriti Mandhana of India and Laura Wolvaardt opening the innings.

Mandhana had an excellent year in ODIs in 2024, with 747 runs in 13 matches with 4 hundreds and 3 fifties. She averaged 57.46 and was the leading run-getter throughout the year for the Indian team. She will be partnered at the top by South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt.

Wolvaardt has scored 697 runs in 12 matches with a best of 184* with an average of 87.12. She hit 3 hundreds and 3 fifties, confirming that captaincy brought her form as well.

Sri Lanka legend Chamari Athapaththu, West Indies’ Hayley Matthews, and South Africa's Marizanne Kapp form the top and middle order of the ICC Women’s ODI Team of the Year 2024.

Athapaththu made 458 runs and picked 9 wickets in ODIs in 2024. Her best score was 195* against South Africa, and she carried that form to whitewash West Indies at home. Hayley Matthews made 469 runs and took 9 wickets in 7 ODI matches. She hammered an unbeaten 140* against Pakistan and followed it up with 141 in the same series. She also made a century against India in Vadodara.

Marizanne Kapp picked 12 wickets and made 114 runs in 11 ODIs in 2024. Her best performance was against Australia, where she scored 75 and picked 3/12 in the same match. She also scored a ton against India in Bengaluru.

Ashleigh Gardner and Deepti Sharma are the all-rounders in the ICC Women’s ODI Team of the Year 2024. Gardner picked 20 wickets and scored 269 runs in 12 matches, while Deepti Sharma took 24 wickets and made 186 runs in ODIs in 2024. Sharma was Player of the Series against New Zealand for her 6 wickets and 56 runs in the series.

Annabel Sutherland made 369 runs and picked 13 wickets in 12 matches, while Amy Jones, the designated wicketkeeper in the ODI team of the year, made 382 runs and affected 15 dismissals. Sutherland smashed centuries against India and New Zealand, while Jones made 190 runs against New Zealand with two fifties.

England spinner Sophie Ecclestone picked 21 wickets in 11 matches, and her best was 6 wickets in 2 ODIs against Pakistan. She also picked a fifer against New Zealand as well.

Finally, Kate Cross completes the ICC Women’s ODI Team of the Year in 2024. She took 19 wickets in 13 matches with a best of 6/30.
