Players from Sri Lanka and Pakistan dominated the ICC ODI team of the year 2024.
The ICC unveiled the ODI Team of the Year for 2024 and saw some of the best players across the world being honored for their performances in the 50-over format last year.
Charith Asalanka of Sri Lanka has been named the captain of the ICC ODI Team of the Year 2024 and also boasts a good record as well. He played 16 ODIs, scoring 605 runs with a best score of 101 and four half-centuries as well.
The openers for this ODI team of the year 2024 are Pakistan’s Saim Ayub and Afghanistan’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz. Saim Ayub had a breakout year, scoring 515 runs in just 9 matches with 3 hundreds and a best score of 113*. Gurbaz, on the other hand, made 531 runs in 11 ODIs with 3 tons and 2 fifties, and a best score of 121.
Sri Lanka’s Pathum Nissanka is placed at no. 3 with 694 runs in 12 ODIs with 210 as his best score and a strike rate of 106.40. He is followed by his Sri Lankan teammate Kusal Mendis, who has been named the wicketkeeper as well. Mendis made 742 runs in 17 ODIs with a highest score of 143 and an average of 53.
Sherfane Rutherford is the only non-Asian batter in the ODI XI of 2024 with 425 runs in 9 matches and a strike rate of 106.20 and a best score of 113. Azmatullah Omarzai is the all-rounder in the team. Omarzai made 417 runs in 12 matches with 149 as his best score and took 17 wickets with a best of 4/18.
Wanindu Hasaranga took 26 wickets in 10 matches with a best of 7/19. Allah Ghazanfar is the second spinner in the team, who took 21 wickets in 11 ODIs this year with 6/26 as his best bowling.
The two pacers in the ICC ODI Team of the Year 2024 are Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf. Afridi played 6 ODIs and took 15 wickets with a best of 4/47. Haris, on the other hand, took 13 wickets in 6 ODIs with a best of 5/29.
