The BCCI selection committee, led by former pacer Ajit Agarkar, will meet in Mumbai to pick the T20I squad for the series against England on Sunday (January 12), TOI reported.

England will travel to India for five T20Is and three ODIs. While the T20I series scheduled to begin from January 22 in Kolkata, the ODI series is due to get underway on February 6 in Nagpur.

As per the report, the selectors will only pick the T20I squad as of now, while the selection of the three-match ODI series against England will be done later.

The England ODIs will be an ideal preparatory ground for the Indian team before the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, slated to be held in Pakistan and UAE from February 19 to March 9.

As per the ICC guidelines, all the participating teams are supposed to submit their provisional squads by 23.59 on January 12, but the BCCI is likely to request for an extension in that regard.

Generally, all the teams are supposed to name a provisional squad at least a month before an ICC tournament. However, this time, the apex body has stretched that period to five weeks.

While teams can make changes to the provisional squad before the start of the tournament with prior intimation to the ICC, it is likely that the squad Indian selectors name will be the final one unless there are any fresh injury concerns.

Meanwhile, the BCCI is set to hold a review meeting of the recently held Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which India lost 1-3 in Australia, at the BCCI headquarters today at 5 PM.

According to TOI, India skipper Rohit Sharma, head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar are likely to attend the meeting with the top BCCI officials.

India’s performance has nosedived in Test cricket lately. The team suffered a 0-3 whitewash at the hands of New Zealand in home conditions and then conceded the BGT 1-3 for the first time since 2014-15.

Extended lean patch of senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, and off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin's mid-series retirement could all be up for discussion in the BCCI's review meeting.
