Aaron Finch, ex-Australia captain, dropped an amazing message for Indian off-spinner R Ashwin, who announced his retirement from international cricket on December 18, 2024. Finch thanked Ashwin for not running him out during an IPL match, hinting at the off-spinner’s penchant for running non-strikers out.

During an IPL 2020 encounter between the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Ashwin warned Finch to be attentive.

In 2018, Ashwin and Finch played together for PBKS. The Indian off-spinner had run out non-striker Jos Buttler of Rajasthan Royals during a match in Jaipur in the 2019 IPL.

Finch shared a photo of Ashwin warning him to return to the crease while not running him out.

He stated: “One of the all time careers. Congratulations R Ashwin. It was a pleasure to play with and against you. PS: Thanks for not running me out this day!”

R Ashwin will continue to play domestic and club cricket. The off-spinner will be playing in IPL 2025 for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) who bought him in the recent mega auction.

Ashwin played 106 Tests, 116 ODIs, and 65 T20Is for India, taking 537, 156 and 72 wickets respectively. He also scored 3503 runs in Tests with 6 centuries and an average of 25.75.

Not only Finch, but several members of the cricket fraternity paid tribute to R Ashwin after he retired from international cricket.
