Harbhajan Singh played his last game for India in 2016 under MS Dhoni's captaincy.
Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh talked about his equation with ex-captain at India and CSK, MS Dhoni, and revealed that he hasn’t spoken to Dhoni for the last decade.
Media reports have repeatedly stated that he had rifts with some of his teammates, including Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, and Yuvraj Singh. While some former cricketers have denied the claims on public forums, others have admitted to not keeping in frequent contact with the former Indian captain.
In a recent interview with SportsNext, Harbhajan said that it had been over a decade since he spoke with Dhoni, either in person or over the phone. While the spin legend has no reason to tell, he feels the former keeper-batter does.
“No, I don’t speak to Dhoni. When I was playing at CSK, that’s when we spoke, but otherwise, we haven’t spoken. It’s been 10 years and more. I have no reason; perhaps he does. I don’t know what the reasons are. When we were playing in the IPL at CSK, that’s when we used to talk, and that, too, was restricted to the ground. After that, he did not come to my room, nor did I go to his," Harbhajan said in the interview.
Harbhajan further stated that he has nothing against Dhoni, but calls only those who tend to pick his reply and reply to him.
“I don’t have anything against him. If he has something to say, he can tell me. But if he did, he would have told me by now. I never tried to call him because I have a lot of passion. I only ring up those who pick up my calls. I don’t have the time otherwise. I stay in touch with the ones I am friends with. A relationship is always about give and take. If I respect you, I hope you will respect me back. Or you respond to me. But if I call you once or twice but don’t get a response, I will probably only meet you as much as I am needed to," Harbhajan said.
Harbhajan Singh’s last game for India came in 2016 and he played 103 Tests, 236 ODIs and 28 T20Is for India. He picked 417, 269 and 25 wickets respectively for India. Harbhajan Singh was also part of the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 World Cup winning Indian teams.
He has also won the IPL multiple times with Mumbai Indians and once with Chennai Super Kings.
