Mohammad Shami has played 4 matches for Bengal in the tournament.
Pacer Mohammad Shami, who recently made his competitive cricketing return after a year out with an ankle injury, suffered a fresh injury scare. The incident happened during his team Bengal’s Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 2024 Trophy match against Madhya Pradesh at the Niranjan Shah Stadium Ground C in Rajkot, on Friday.
Mohammad Shami had undergone surgery for his injured ankle in March this year, after being out of action since the 2023 World Cup final. He then recovered at his home and rehabbed at the NCA, before finally making his return in Ranji Trophy 2024 for Bengal.
He has played 4 matches in the ongoing SMAT 2024 and picked 4 wickets including 3/21 against Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, Shami suffered a fresh scare as while bowling the 19th over of the innings, when Bengal was defending 190-run target, Shami fell in a bid to stop the ball.
Shami was immediately seen in pain and looked uncomfortable while holding his lower back. Nitin Patel, the head of the Centre of Excellence's medical panel, dashed onto the field to check on him. Patel and his colleagues have traveled to Rajkot to conduct a thorough evaluation of the pacer's fitness.
Following a quick treatment, the 34-year-old stood up, ready to bowl his final five deliveries. However, Bengal lost the match in the final over.
As per Sportstar report, Shami felt a jerk when he fell to the ground to stop the ball. However, nothing is serious with the pacer and he is expected to take the field on Sunday when Bengal faces Meghalaya.
