The Suryakumar Yadav-led side is slated to tour South Africa for four T20I next month.
VVS Laxman will serve as India’s head coach for the four-match T20I series against South Africa next month, Cricbuzz reported on Monday (October 28).
According to the report, Laxman will step up in the absence of Gautam Gambhir, who is set to travel to Australia with the Indian Test squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
The decision of Laxman’s appointment for the South Africa tour was confirmed to Cricbuzz by a senior BCCI official.
The Suryakumar Yadav-led side is slated to play a four-T20I series against the Proteas, slated to get underway on November 8 in Durban. The next three matches are set to take place in Gqeberha, Centurion, and Johannesburg on November 10, 13, and 15, respectively.
While the T20I squad will leave for South Africa around November 4, the Test squad will fly to Australia on November 10-11.
As per the report, Sairaj Bahutule, Hrishikesh Kanitkar, and Subhadeep Ghosh will be part of the coaching staff under Laxman for the shortest format series.
Laxman, who took over as the head of NCA in 2021, has served as head coach on multiple occasions in the past as well.
The BCCI on Friday (October 25) announced India’s 15-member squad for the T20I series against South Africa. Besides captain Suryakumar, the squad also features the likes of Hardik Pandya, Sanju Samson, and Rinku Singh, among others.
Having taken over as India’s full-time T20I captain after the T20 World Cup 2024 triumph, Suryakumar Yadav has produced flawless results so far. He led the team 3-0 victories in Sri Lanka and at home against Bangladesh. Suryakumar will look to complete a hat-trick of series win on the tour of South Africa.
