Shan Masood’s tenure as Pakistan Test captain could come to an end as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly considering replacing him after a poor outing against England. Pakistan lost the first Test to England by an innings and 47 runs in Multan on Friday, October 11, 2024.

Pakistan had made 556 runs batting first in Multan, with Abdullah Shafique, Shan Masood, and Salman Agha scoring tons. But their total was dwarfed as England made 823/7d with Joe Root making 262 who added 454 runs with Harry Brook who made a triple century (317).

The 267-run lead was enough for England to rout Pakistan for 220 runs in the second innings and win the Test.

This is the sixth consecutive Test defeat for Pakistan under Shan Masood’s captaincy and now it has been reported that PCB has decided to remove Shan Masood from the leadership of the Pakistan team.

As per Pakistan news outlet, GeoSuper, it has been reported that the likes of Mohammad Rizwan along with Salman Ali Agha as the ‘potential candidates’ to take over the job as Pakistan’s Test skipper.

"Shan Masood is likely to be removed as #Pakistan's Test captain after the #England series due to 'poor performance,' sources reveal. Saud Shakeel, Mohammad Rizwan, and Salman Ali Agha are potential replacements. PCB selection committee and coaches to meet today," Geo Super reported.

Masood became the first Pakistan captain to lose six consecutive Test matches. The Men in Green are at the bottom of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) standings.
