Shardul played through with a 102-degree Fahrenheit fever at the Ekana Cricket Stadium.
Mumbai all-rounder Shardul Thakur was rushed to a hospital due to high fever after the second day’s play in the ongoing Irani Cup match against Rest of India in Lucknow.
According to a report published in The Indian Express, Shardul, who scored 36 runs while batting at No. 10 and was involved in a 73-run partnership with double centurion Sarfaraz Khan, played through with a 102-degree Fahrenheit fever at the Ekana Cricket Stadium.
Shardul Thakur was suffering from a mild fever since the first day, and it turned worse after batting for almost two hours in the middle.
He took a couple of breaks to allow the team doctor to attend him. The Mumbai team management later took him to a hospital, where he was kept under observation.
The doctors are then due to take a decision whether Shardul will be able to take part in the remainder of the contest or not.
“He was not feeling well for the entire day and was running on high fever, which was the main reason he came out to bat late. He was feeling weak and he slept in the dressing room after taking medicine.
"But he wanted to bat despite feeling low. We have got his blood test done for malaria and dengue. We are waiting for the results. Till then, he will spend the night in hospital,” a source was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.
The Irani Cup fixture marked Shardul Thakur’s return to cricket after he underwent foot surgery in London in June.
The Mumbai cricketer sustained the injury during the last Ranji Trophy season but continued playing through pain and scripted his team’s record-extending 42nd Ranji Trophy title.
Shardul would be now targetting the Australia tour with strong performances this domestic season. India are scheduled to play five Test matches Down Under, starting from November 22 in Perth.
