Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) pacer Yash Dayal’s father admitted that his son went through a lot emotionally after getting hit for five sixes in an over during the IPL 2023 season.

Dayal, who was playing for Gujarat Titans (GT) at the time, had failed to defend 29 runs in an over as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter Rinku Singh took him to the cleaners in a group-stage match at Ahmedabad.

Recalling the tough time, Yash's father Chanderpal Dayal said school-going children used to scream 'Rinku, Rinku' while passing his house in Prayagraj.

Chanderpal also revealed that his wife fell sick because of constant taunts while Yash went into a shell himself.

“It was like an accident for us. The school bus would pass by, and kids would scream, ‘Rinku Singh, Rinku Singh, five sixes.’ It was so painful -- why did this have to happen to my son?” Yash Dayal's father told PTI in an interview.

Chanderpal said he motivated his son by citing the example of Stuart Broad, who was smashed for 6 sixes in an over during the T20 World Cup 2007 but went on to become one of England's greatest seamers of all time.

Yash's father also reminded the seamer about his dream to play for India. “We won’t stop until you play for India. You will play for India). We explained to him that very night that it wasn’t the first time something like this had happened, and it wouldn’t be the last. Yuvraj Singh hit Stuart Broad for six sixes, and Broad went on to become one of the greatest seam bowlers of all time,” Chanderpal stated.

Yash Dayal has been included in India’s squad for the first Test of the two-match series against Bangladesh, starting on September at Chepauk.

When Yash was bowling well in the Duleep Trophy, Chanderpal felt the Test the call-up was not far away.

“It can’t get bigger than this for a father. For any cricketer, representing the country in Tests is the ultimate dream. It’s a huge day for us, for our family, and for our friends. The entire credit goes to him. No matter how hard I would have tried, it was his efforts that got him where he has reached today,” Chanderpaul said.

“I had the hunch when India A were 76/4 in the second innings, and Yash had taken three of the four wickets that morning. I told my family, ‘He has made his claim; now it’s up to the selection committee.’ They saw his potential,” he concluded.
