The India A team is slated to tour Australia for three ‘four-day’ matches.
Mumbai batter Musheer Khan, who has had a dream start to his first-class career, is all set to travel to Australia for the India A shadow tour, which will feature three ‘four-day’ matches.
The 19-year-old demonstrated his exceptional batting talent by hitting a double hundred in the Ranji quarter-final, followed by a century in the final. His brilliant run of form continued as he slammed an impressive 181 for India B against India A in the opening round of Duleep Trophy 2024.
According to a PTI report, the India A team for the Australia tour will be picked based on performances in the Duleep Trophy and the Irani Cup match between Rest of India and Ranji champions Mumbai, which will take place before the team's departure to Australia.
A few Test specialists and pace bowlers might travel to Australia ahead of the rest of the team. Two names that are almost certain to be included in the squad are Musheer Khan and Rajasthan's left-arm spinner Manav Suthar, who has emerged as a strong left-arm spinner after Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel.
"There are no fitness issues with Musheer, making him a certainty for India A's tour of Australia," the report stated.
Musheer Khan's ability to score big in tough situations and against strong bowling attacks seem to have worked in his favor. His temperament also stood out as he played 373 balls (62.1 overs out of 116 overs) in the Duleep Trophy and formed a notable partnership with tailender Navdeep Saini.
The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee is focusing on developing Suthar as Axar Patel's understudy and put him on regular A tours so that by the time Jadeja is done, he becomes the second left-arm orthodox bowler.
