The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is currently mulling over two significant playing conditions from the previous domestic and Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

The board is believed to be deliberating on the Impact Player and the two-bouncer rules, which were tested at the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy before being brought to the IPL.

While the Impact Player rule has divided opinions among the players and coaches, the two-bouncer rule gained praise for restoring balance in the game.

According to a report published in Cricbuzz, the BCCI has not been able to take a decision on the continuation of the two rules in the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

“We understand that Impact Player and two bouncer rules are the key points and no decision has been taken," an official of a state unit told Cricbuzz.

The report further claimed that the decision on these two rules for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy will have an impact on their continuation in the IPL.

Earlier this month, the BCCI released the rules, guidelines, and playing conditions for other domestic events scheduled for the upcoming season. However, the state associations are still in dark about whether two specific rules will be continued.

In a communication sent to the state units on August 5, the BCCI stated, "In relation to the Domestic Season 2024 - 25, we are sharing the following documents for your kind perusal.

1. Guidelines to the Host Associations and Participating teams; 2. Playing Conditions; Men's Multi Day; Men's One Day; Women's Multi Day; Women's One Day; Women's T20; Women's U-15."

The message also included a note indicating that "Men's T20 Playing Conditions will be shared shortly."

The 2024-25 season of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy is slated to get underway on November 23.

Notably, both the Impact Player and the two-bouncer rules are not applicable in international cricket. During the IPL 2024 season, India skipper Rohit Sharma expressed his reservations over this rule, citing that it is holding back the all-rounders. Since then, a lot of current and former players have joined the bandwagon in support of Rohit.

However, many members of cricket fraternity have backed the rule as well, including R Ashwin and Zaheer Khan.
