TNCA XI batted first and posted 379 runs in 1st innings against Mumbai.
Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav, both players who are vying for a spot in the Indian middle order for the upcoming Bangladesh Test series, failed to impress with the bat in the ongoing Buchi Babu Tournament 2024 in Tamil Nadu.
With a busy Test season approaching for Team India with 2 Tests against Bangladesh, 3 Tests against New Zealand, both at home, and the five-Test Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, all the involved players are looking to stake a claim in the Indian playing XI
Both Shreyas and Surya are turning out for Mumbai in their first match against TNCA XI at the Sri Ramakrishna College Of Arts And Science Cricket Ground in Coimbatore. TNCA XI won the toss and elected to bat.
Boopathi Vaishna Kumar (82), Pradosh Ranjan Paul (62), Baba Indrajith (61), and Ajith Ram (53) contributed to TNCA XI’s score of 379 runs in 1st innings. For Mumbai, Himanshu Singh starred with 5/81, while Shams Mulani took three wickets.
In reply, Mumbai lost three wickets pretty quickly with opener Musheer Khan scoring 16 runs. A lot was expected from experienced Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav. However, Shreyas Iyer fell for just 2 runs to R Sai Kishore.
Suryakumar Yadav then added 40 runs with opener Divyansh Saxena before he also lost his wicket. Suryakumar made 30 runs in 38 balls before getting out to Ajith Ram. Surya hit 3 fours and 1 six in his knock.
This performance doesn’t bode well for both Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav, but they still have another innings, possibly. Both the players will also feature in the Duleep Trophy, which begins next month.
